Community Lottery Program
As authorized in Public Lottery Act Regulations Section 2(1)(a), the Yukon Lottery Commission provides funding to Municipalities and community local authorities. Through an ongoing evaluation of this program, priorities of the Commission are:
- To provide resources that will enable the community to make decisions relevant to community specific needs,
- To provide a reasonable level of funding to meet the needs of community groups, and
- To provide equitable access to lottery revenues to Yukoners.
The formula for calculation of community lottery funding is reviewed every two years with input solicited from each community. The program has seen adjustments as lottery revenue increased and as funding decisions devolved for local community prioritization. The current formula for calculation is $8,000 base rate, plus $12.00 per capita to 5,000 population and $3.25 over 5,000. A total of $363,505 is allocated through this program to 20 municipalities and community local authorities serving 28,040 Yukon residents.
Approved contribution is communicated annually to each community following budget approval. Claim is made through submission of annual audited financial statement and detailed list of projects and activities funded as per requirement of the commission.
