Travel Assistance Program
Initiated in 1993 to respond to the needs of recreation groups identified through community consultation and analysis of project applications, the travel assistance program provides eligible non-profit societies and extra-curricular high school groups with access to funding to participate in tournaments and adjudicated events within and out of the Yukon . In-take and review is continuous prior to travel date.

Eligibility/Criteria
Groups registered and in good standing with societies; or extra-curricular groups of High School institutions. Groups must have been registered with Societies and active for a minimum of one year. No more than 3 extra curricular affiliates from an educational institute are eligible to apply in a fiscal year. Only one application per person per discipline is eligible within a fiscal year for Out-of-Yukon travel, and two applications per person per discipline are eligible within a fiscal year for In-Yukon travel, only one of which may be to travel to Alaska. For applicants sending more than one team to a single event, one application is required. Support persons are eligible based on ratio to participants.
The following are not eligible for assistance:
- Individuals (only eligible groups may apply for and claim funds)
- Yukon territorial championships and national events (Arctic Winter Games, Canada Games, North American Indigenous Games, Sr. Games and Western Canada Summer Games) including trials for these competitions.
- Workshops, conferences, or meetings.
- Groups formed solely for a specific travel opportunity.
- Applications submitted after date of departure are ineligible.
- Airline tickets acquired through reward programs or other dividend programs are not eligible.
- Applications to tournaments or events that offer cash prizes are ineligible.
Level of Assistance
Assistance is eligible at a maximum of $200 per person and total application not to exceed $8,000 for Out-of-Yukon.
Statistics
- 2006-07: 76 applications were reviewed. 67 applications were approved for total contribution of $166,206, assisting 1,501 Yukoners.
- 2005-06: 80 applications were reviewed. 73 applications were approved for total contribution of $165,788, assisting 1,171 Yukoners.
- 2004-05: 93 applications were reviewed. 85 applications were approved for total contribution of $170,783, assisting 1326 participants.
- 2003-04: 82 applications were reviewed. 68 applications were approved for total contribution of $144,540, assisting 1065 participants.
- 2002-03: 102 applications were reviewed. Subsequently, 91 groups received $228,490 in funding contribution, assisting 1,512 participants.
- 2001-02: 77 applications were approved totaling $182,575, assisting 1,119 Yukoners with travel costs.
- 2000-01: 67 applications were reviewed. Of these 57 were approved, with funding totaling $151,746 assisting 1,111 participants.
- 1999-00: 62 applications were reviewed with 56 approved, totaling $124,042, assisting 1,043 participants.
